How does Wireless Internet work? Free up your phone lines! Our Nevada Licensed Electrical Contractor will install an antenna mount on your roof and run a single small cable inside your home to the location of your computer or router. Then one of our technicians will then configure your access point to communicate with your computer or router. The access point will begin immediately receiving a radio signal from one of our local towers or nearby repeaters. How fast is the service and how does it compare to other services? The fastest and most reliable service around! To provide a little perspective, the best dial-up connection speed (bandwidth) you can get is a little under 56Kbps, more often than not however, here in Mason Valley you end up with something between 28Kbps and 36Kbps. Internet Providers based in major cities can provide bandwidth between 512Kbps and 4,500Kbps. One of the two major differences is that these other providers offer only asymmetric bandwidth; this simply means the download speeds are different than the upload speeds. An example internet plan could be 1,500Kbps download with 128Kbps upload, and although this practice has become acceptable, we believe that symmetric bandwidth is simply better. The second major and more important difference is the connection “latency.” Latency represents the time it takes for the internet signal to travel to its destination (i.e. Microsoft’s Servers) and back. We overcome this problem by keeping our internet connection, servers and routers here locally. As a comparison, Dial-up connection latency is typically 180ms to 250ms, while Satellite is 600ms to 2,200ms. Our service boasts and average of only 65ms-85ms. One other difference worth mentioning is that our backhaul, or connection to the internet is currently 9.0Mbps. While we have much more bandwidth than our competitors, we have chosen to limit our internet packages to 3.0Mbps or less to guarantee efficiency and reliability. How secure is the wireless internet signal? Your information is protected! Our equipment has AES 128-bit encryption built-in to ensure privacy and security across our wireless network only. As we can not be responsible for internet content or personal usage habits, we always recommend that you download and install the most current virus definitions, and security updates for your operating system and be wary of sites and emails "phishing" for personal or financial information. Our equipment also includes an integrated router and firewall. This typically eliminates the need for anything more than a switch inside your home. Some router and firewall manufacturers (i.e. Buffalo, SMC and TrendNet) have been known to cause connectivity issues across broadband connections due to minimal processing power and proprietary “Speed Boosting” technologies. For this reason, we prefer and sell only Linksys WRT54GL routers with a custom firmware. We have seen, on average, an increase of almost 150% in bandwidth, and a decrease of more than 200% in collisions by switching to our routers from the brands mentioned above. Return to top...
What kind of warranty and support can I expect? We back our service and equipment 100% We are currently the only Wireless Internet Provider in the area that complies with State and local laws, having a Nevada Licensed Electrical Contractor perform our installations. This costs you nothing more, and guarantees a clean and professional installation. We understand that no single piece of hardware will last forever. We offer a two year limited warranty on all of our wireless equipment. We also do occasional equipment upgrades at no cost to you, when deemed necessary. How many computers can I use with one connection? As many as you want! You can have as many computers as you like connected to your access point. What about my current internet provider and/or email accounts? Email...no problem! You are more than welcome to keep your existing email account, assuming your current internet provider allows this. However, their internet service will no longer be needed, as we will be your internet service provider (ISP.) Each of our plans include two free 10MB email accounts. If these are not enough, you can purchase additional accounts or upgrade your current accounts as needed. We also do not block/blacklist any mail domains or countries like our competitors. How reliable is the wireless internet connection? Ask our satisfied customers! We have been providing high speed wireless internet for almost four years now, continuously upgrading, testing and improving our wireless network. During this time, our external system has experienced only two and one half hours of downtime (approximately 99.99998% system uptime.)
